Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Tennessee

The mission of Volunteer Tennessee is to encourage volunteerism and community service. Volunteer Tennessee is the 25-member bipartisan citizen board appointed by the Governor to oversee AmeriCorps programs, manage the Tennessee Serves Network, promote service-learning opportunities and foster community service initiatives and partnerships in which people of all ages and backgrounds engage in addressing the educational, public safety, environmental and other human needs in the Volunteer State.

Tennessee Serves

Volunteer Tennessee and Tennessee First Lady Maria Lee have announced the official launch of the Tennessee Serves Network, the statewide volunteer opportunities portal. The Tennessee Serves Network is a statewide collaboration of volunteer centers dedicated to bringing people and community together through an easily accessible online portal. The portal launch also marks the second anniversary of the first lady’s volunteer initiative, Tennessee Serves.

Service Initiatives in Tennessee

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps is the “domestic Peace Corps” where thousands of Americans, both young and young in spirit, are going to be getting things done through service in exchange for help financing their higher education or repaying their student loans. AmeriCorps seeks to harness the energy and idealism of Americans who are dedicated to making their communities — and this country — a better place for all of us to live. Other National Service Programs

AmeriCorps VISTA members go where the need is greatest: to communities facing poverty, inequity, and unemployment. VISTA members serve in a professional setting building partnerships, writing grants, and organizing volunteers. Above all, VISTA members are catalysts for change, working to advance local solutions.

Champion of Service Certificate Program

The Volunteer Tennessee Champion of Service certificate program is intended to provide ongoing recognition for individuals and groups engaged in volunteerism and service outside of the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards. This program, supported by Volunteer Tennessee, is an opportunity for Volunteer Tennessee board members to recognize outstanding service and volunteerism in communities across the State.
